Koi Pile

Koi Pile

Koi fish are simply fascinating. I love the way they flow and glide beneath the water. Their fins always remind me of angel wings. They have such a transparent, shimmery quality and as they move under the water, they seem to be floating on a gentle breeze. Koi have a tendency to swarm and pile up on top of each other. They seem to have no sense whatsoever of personal space as they climb over each other in search of food in what seems to be an everlasting game of leap frog. It's amazing that they don't scar each other up with the way they charge and vault. They must have thick scales.

I photographed these Koi at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Phoenix, Arizona.
