Reaching New Heights

Reaching New Heights

I took this picture on a bright, Spring day in sunny Arizona. This location was somewhere just off of Bush Highway and although the sun was out and it looks incredibly warm, it was actually a pretty cold afternoon. I know, that is hard to believe about Arizona. Our kids were all bundled up and even had a blanket covering the stroller openings where they cowered underneath, peeking out only occasionally when they wanted more food, or to complain about how cold they were. This image doesn't show them, but there were clouds covering most of the sky that day and we had intermittent rain on our make shift picnic. Even so, we had a wonderful day and it was a great time catching up with old friends.

I titled this piece, "Reaching New Heights" because to me, it looks as if the brittle bush in the foreground is trying ever so hard to attain the same stringy stature of the ocotillo stems that reside behind them and therefore, attempting to reach a new, seemingly out of the realm of possibility, height.
