Infrared Poppies

I think that this is one of the first images that I ever captured on black and white, infrared film. One of my co-workers had gained an interest in the process of infrared, so we set off on a little photo excursion by the University of Arizona campus. I found this house across from my former dorm. That field of flowers was really mostly comprised of overgrown weeds (I tend to embellish my photos a bit). Now, that field is no more and a parking lot lies in it's stead. That house may be gone as well, but I can't quite remember… At the time I took this, I was very much into hand coloring my black and white images. I was also working at Centric Photo, where I was helping to start a brand new, digital department. We had just invested in a new printer and my boss asked if I had anything that I wanted to print as a test. I scanned this negative in right away and stayed late experimenting with the water color filter and then, "hand coloring" this image on the computer so that I could print it out the next day. These "Infrared Poppies" began a whole series of digitally colored infrared images for me and really helped to shape who I am as a photographer and digital artist. Even though it was created many years ago, it has a special place in the history of my artwork.

$75.00

The original was photographed with black and white infrared film. I scanned it into the computer and colored it in Photoshop.
